If the goals are so wide in soccer, why are there so few goals?

In my latest blog post, I explore the paradox of soccer: despite the goals being remarkably wide, the number of goals scored in a match is generally low. I delve into factors contributing to this, such as the skills of the goalkeepers, the strategies implemented by teams, and the pressure on players. Soccer isn't simply about scoring, but rather a complex blend of defense, tactics, and precision. This makes the game more challenging and interesting, despite the wide goals. So, while the target is large, getting the ball past the obstacles isn't easy at all!

Will Major League Soccer be a top four sport in the U.S.?

As I delve into the topic of Major League Soccer's (MLS) prominence in the U.S., I find myself questioning whether it will make the cut into the top four beloved sports in the country. It's a real challenge considering the stiff competition from NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL. However, I see potential growth in MLS due to the growing youth participation in soccer and increased TV viewership. On the flip side, the lack of rich history like other sports might be a hindrance. So, it's a toss-up whether MLS can break into the top four anytime soon.

What happens when one scores an own goal?

An own goal is when a player scores a goal in their own team's net, and it is counted for the opposing team. It can be due to misjudging the ball, a mistake with a pass, or even a desperate attempt to stop an opposition player. Own goals can have a major impact on the game, as it can cost the team a point or even the entire match. They can also be incredibly embarrassing for the player who scored it, as they are usually remembered more than any other goal they may have scored during their career. However, it is a part of the game and can teach players to be more aware, so they do not make the same mistake twice.
